Homer C. Kornman of Owings Mills, Maryland died peacefully at home at age 90. He lived a life full of adventure and lessons well-taught. Following in the footsteps of his German immigrant grandparents, he traveled extensively as a modern-day explorer and hunter, along with his loving wife of 65 years, Alene. Their travels took them to six continents and all 50 states, and he did not fear the unknown adventures. His final adventure took him to heaven on April 29, 2008.
One of his proudest accomplishments was as an enlisted man and then officer in the United States Navy, and he continued in the Navy Resevres for many years after. He had enlisted after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. While serving as an electronics instructor, he married Alene Whitlow on December 26, 1942. His first born, Danny, was born in 1944 and died as an infant. He returned from an assisgnment in Guam just in time to assist with the birth of his second child in 1945.
He pioneered radio and television as a young engineer and continued in that field until his retirement. He moved to Owings Mills, Maryland in 1968 as technical operations manager for the new Maryland Public Broadcasting Network.
He is survived by his wife, Alene; three children, Virginia, Mary, and Nancy; three grandchildren, Lynda, John and Nancy; and six great grandchildren, Daniel, Abbigayle, Katelyn, Leah, Grace and Harrison.
He leaves a legacy which is abundantly evident in the lives of others who he influenced by his example. His resourcefulness, work ethic, frugality, pragmatism, humility and sense of humor will be missed by all. He was "smarter than the average bear."
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.
