Howard Eugene Butler, 78, of Manchester died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at his home.

Born May 25, 1932 in Bakersville, NC, he was the son of the late John Mitchell Butler and Nancy Elizabeth McKinney. He was the husband of Beatrice E. Hill Butler, his wife of 58 years.

He was an active member of Crosswinds Church and the Oasis Senior Group. He was a veteran of the United States Army who had served in the Korean War from 1949-1952. He was retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postal Carrier. Years ago, he was a milk man for Koontz Creamery.

In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, raising goats, raising Christmas Trees, and time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son and daughter-in-law Wayne Mitchell and Victoria Butler of Bloomsburg, PA; his daughter and son-in-law Marsha Jean Butler and James Fletcher of Manchester; his brother Jesse Butler of Indiana; his sister Rosa Fritz of Michigan; his grandchildren Jessica, Ian, Megan, Erin, and Brian; and his great grandchildren Cameron, Colby, Zachary, Colton, Maxwell, and Madelyn.

He was predeceased by his sisters Audrey Mallory and Eula Tolley; and his brothers Roy and Lloyd Butler.

The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Crosswinds Church, 640 Lucabaugh Mill Road, Westminster with his pastor the Revs. David Sulcer and Paul Cushing officiating.

A private cremation will be held at the All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crosswinds Church, 40 Lucabaugh Mill Road, Westminster, MD 21157.
