Jack Richard Burgesen, 77, of Owings Mills, MD, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson, MD with family by his side. Born on February 8, 1949, in Owings Mills, MD where he resided the majority of his life on his family property, he was the son of the late Jacob M. Burgesen and Margaret Rita (Shea) Burgesen. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen “Kathy” Carol Burgesen, who passed away on February 29, 2024.
Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served in the Vietnam war from 1968 - 1972. He married the love of his life, Kathy on June 16th 1973. He graduated from Towson University in 1982 with a Bachelor's in Science. He worked for the Department of Assessments and Taxation in Baltimore City and then more recently in Carroll County where he retired from. He received the State of Maryland Governor’s Citation award in 2011 for 35 years of outstanding service. He owned a perennial plant nursery on his property for many years called Misty Valley Nursery and that's where he spent most of his free time for many years. He throughly enjoyed being outdoors and listening to oldies rock and roll music as well as talk show radio. You would often find him playing Keno at the “country store” up the road or betting on horses at Charlestown Races. He cherished spending time with his family especially going to Orioles baseball games with them each season. He also enjoyed watching Ravens football games each Sunday while drinking a Coors light over ice. He was the very best Uncle/Dad to his niece Melissa who he raised most of her life and later became a very proud “Pop pop” to his grandson Tanner Jack Myers who he adored beyond measure! We will miss him very dearly!!
Surviving him is his goddaughter/niece: Melissa Myers and husband Tom, grandson: Tanner Jack, sisters-in-law: Michelle Burgesen and Patricia McCarthy, niece: Carol Lynn Feeley and husband George, grandnephew: Ryan Feeley and grandniece: Megan Consoli and husband Louis. As well as many kitties and his beloved dog “Ellie”
