Jake B. Adkins age 86 of Hampstead, Md. died Friday Feb. 17, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Westminster, MD.
Born March 23, 1925 in Tennessee he was the son of the late Manuel and Alpha Pearl Johnson Adkins. Twice married he was the husband of the late Mary Ruth Adkins and the late Mary Virginia Hess Adkins.
Years ago he was a heavy equipment operator for Arbor Construction. He enjoyed camping, fishing and family gatherings.
Surviving are children: Jake Adkins, Jr. of Germantown, MD., Nancy Horan of Manchester, MD., Sue Gates of Knoxville, MD., Clayton Adkins of Winchester, VA., Wayne Adkins of Freeland MD., Mike Adkins of Reisterstown, MD. Bertie Gates of Mt. Airy, MD. and Annette Addington of Fredericksburg, VA. Stepson: Harold Hess of Fredericksburg, VA. Siblings: Mary Edith Jones of Sykesville, MD., Gladys Kidd of Germantown, MD., Hugh Adkins of Tennessee, Jimmy Adkins of Winchester, VA. and Connie Towers of Florida. He was also survived by 29 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by daughter: Darlene Adkins and siblings: Minnie Houck, Lucille Carmichael, Pauline Roberts, J.D. Adkins, Emory Adkins and Dorothy Jones.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9pm. at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 3296 Charmil Dr. Manchester, MD. with a funeral service Tuesday at 8:00pm.
Interment will be in Sunset Mem. Gardens, Fredericksburg, VA.
