James Frederick Bishop, 83, of Cross, South Carolina, formerly of Manchester, MD, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Roper Berkeley Hospital in Summerville, South Carolina. Born on November 19, 1938, in Baltimore County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Jacob Bishop and Mary Sprinkle Bishop.
For many years, James worked as a truck driver for Berwager Livestock. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed watching the Orioles and the Capitals.
Surviving him is son: James D. Bishop and wife Denise of Manchester, grandchildren: Matthew and Cody Bishop, step-grandchildren: Brent Wheeler and wife Barbara, Brady Wheeler, great-grandson: Camden Wheeler, sister: June Armacost of Hampstead, brother: Robert Bishop of Littlestown, PA. He is also survived by longtime friends and caregivers, Angie Sweatman and Mike Taylor, both of South Carolina and former spouse: Betty Bishop.
James was predeceased by his sister: Jean Hoffman and brother: Joseph Bishop.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 18, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, with fire department honors to be held at 8 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, September 19, at 11 am.
Interment to follow in New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 416, Manchester, MD 21102.
