James "Jim" Clinton Unger, 88, of Hampstead, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at home. Born on April 19, 1935 in Westminster, Maryland, Jim was the son of the late Melvin Clinton Unger and Gertrude Elizabeth (Rickell) Unger. He is survived by his wife, Freida Jane (Rill) Unger, a sister, Mabel Close; her husband, Herbert, of Finksburg, a brother, Joseph Unger; his wife, Darleen, of Hampstead, as well as numerous nieces; nephews.
Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps directly out of high school, and served from 1954-1962. He was an electrician for Washington Local 28, until he retired and established Ungers Fruit Farm, where he spent the next 38 years growing various fruit; vegetable crops.
He was a member of the American Legion, St. Mark's United Church of Christ, and he enjoyed participating in multiple Farmer's markets in Carroll; surrounding counties.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Charles, Robert, and Edward Unger and sisters: Ruth; Mary Jane.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD. 21102.
Funeral services will be followed by internment on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Mark's United Church of Christ, 1616 Cape Horn Road, Hampstead, MD. 21074.
