James Leroy Cross, 84, of Hanover, Pa., formerly of Randallstown, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at his home.
Born Aug. 26, 1925, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Estelle M. Ward Cross. He was the husband of Laura Mae Cross, his wife of 60 years, who died in 2008.
He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Halethorpe Community Church, serving as a Deacon and board member. He owned and operated Tri-City Vendors for approximately 25 years.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law James L. Jr. and Linda L. Cross, of Utah, Charles E. and Karen S. Cross, of Baltimore, and Donald E. Cross, of Linthicum; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Bruce E. Schwarz, of Hanover, Pa.; grandchildren Kelli Szugye, Jennifer Miller, Lindsi Ika, Jimmy, Kyle, Jeffrey and Andrew Cross, Julie Carlisle, Matthew, Sarah, and Alston Schwarz, and Margaret Abbott; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Halethorpe Community Church, 1312 Francis Ave., Halethorpe.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Cadden officiating. A private interment will be held in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Halethorpe Community Church, 1312 Francis Ave., Halethorpe, MD 21227.
