James Edward Diehl, Sr. 78 years old of Sykesville, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Dove House in Westminster.

Born May 20, 1935 in Hampstead, he was the son of the late Harry Richard Diehl and Beulah Elizabeth Shaffer Diehl.

He was the husband for 56 years of Frances L. Constantine Diehl.

He was a stationary engineer for the State of Maryland for 30 years and worked at Little Sisters of the Poor for 14 years. He was a long time trustee at Wards Chapel United Methodist Church and over saw church maintenance. He loved working in the yard and tinkering in his garage.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children and their spouses, Diane and Kelley Gordon of Westminster, Janice and Joe McCleary of Florida, James E. Diehl, Jr. of Sykesville, Terry and Tony Cimino of Mt. Airy, Connie and Don Gabriel of Federalsburg, MD, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, siblings, Kenneth Diehl of Texas, David Diehl of Baltimore and Evelyn Holmes of Hanover, PA

He was predeceased by his sister, Hilda Gunter and brother Ralph Diehl.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills, where services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM.

Interment Lake View Memorial Gardens.
