James Robert Higgins, 83 years old of Reisterstown, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at his daughter's home in Hunt Valley.
Born June 9, 1928 in Bellows Falls, Vermont, he was the son of the late Edith Higgins.
He was the husband for 59 years of Barbara Poor Higgins.
He served in the U.S. Navy and attended Arnold College in Connecticut. He came to Baltimore County in 1953 where he was a school teacher and athletic director in Baltimore County Schools for 45 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glyndon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Maureen Higgins Robey and her husband William of Hunt Valley, Michael Rian Higgins and his wife Debby of Nottingham, grandchildren: Kathleen Borrison, James, Colin and Garrett Higgins, daughters-in-law: Debbie Higgins and Lynette Higgins and brother-in-law Dr. Stephen Poor.
He was pre deceased by 2 sons: Timothy James Higgins in 2005 and James Michael Higgins in 2010
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM for a memorial gathering at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon.
