On Saturday, December 4, 2010, JAMES MICHAEL HIGGINS, 51, of Sykesville died suddenly at his residence.
He was the beloved husband of Lynette Reber Higgins, his wife of 10 years; devoted father of James Robert and Colin Michael Higgins; loving son of James R. and Barbara H. Higgins, nee Poor; dear brother of Maureen Robey and her husband Bill, the late Timothy Higgins and his wife Debbie, and Michael Higgins and his wife Debby; cherished uncle of Kathleen Saltysiak and her fiancé Matthew Borrison, and Garrett Higgins; and he is also survived by an aunt and uncle, cousins, and many friends.
Born November 9, 1959 in Baltimore, he grew up in the Reisterstown area and graduated from the Fort Union Military Academy. He served for 10 years in the Merchant Marines, with support service to the troops during Desert Storm.
He eventually settled in Howard County and owned his own roofing contracting business.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, and his faithful Labradors Liberty and Bella.
A private cremation was held at the All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester.
The family will receive friends for a memorial gathering 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
