James "Jim" Monroe Hoffman, Jr., 77, of Hanover, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at his home. Born on September 11, 1945, at home in Hampstead, MD, he was the son of the late James Monroe Hoffman, Sr., and Opal Ray Bottoms Hoffman. He was the beloved husband of almost 58 years to Beverly Anne Hoffman.
Jim graduated from North Carroll High School in 1963 and served in the US Navy from 1963-1966. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church of Hanover, Lebanon Masonic Lodge #175 and a past patron of Lebanon chapter #108 Order of the Eastern Star, and the VFW Post 2506 of Hanover. He was a life member of Upperco (formerly Arcadia) fire company. Jim retired from a flavor company as an administrator.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are children: James Scott Hoffman, Sr. of Hanover, PA, Kathryn Opal Hoffman of Baltimore, MD, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and sister: Joan Hoffman Porterfield of Hanover, PA.
Jim was predeceased by his sister: Beverly Rae Mann.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, August 24, from 9-11 am, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am.
Inurnment to follow with military honors in Wesley U.M. Church Cemetery, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's name may be offered to Grace Church of Hanover, 55 Albright Drive, Hanover, PA 17331, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 Madison St, Hanover, PA 17331, or to Upperco Volunteer Fire Department, 5500 Fringer Road, Upperco, MD 21155.
