Jean Marie (Simpkins) Hale, 72, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family on November 27, 2025.

She was born May 1, 1953, and was the daughter of the late Stephen and Ruth (Devilbiss) Simpkins. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gerald “Jerry” Hale, as well as her daughters Ashley and Alyssa, their spouses Daniel and Jordan, and four grandchildren: Mirium, Maxwell, Blake, and Josephine. She will also be missed by her surviving sister, Joyce Rutledge, and her husband, John.

At age 19, Jean met and fell in love with Jerry while roller skating at Sportsman’s Hall. From the moment they met, Jerry observed, “she was so full of life!” Her child-like wonder, curiosity, and positivity were a never ending source of smiles for everyone around her. Once married, they built the home in which they raised their girls. Jean loved where she lived, almost as much as being a mom, and vowed never to move.

Everyone knew that Jean had a passion for horses, owning one since age 14. She loved trail rides and making new riding friends. She was also an avid reader and lover of roller coasters. She worked in fine jewelry for 38 years, always having an eye for sparkly, dazzling things. After retirement, she found great joy in flower gardening and baking for others.

Jean had a close, personal relationship with Jesus and was active in church. She was known for her gregarious personality, compassion, and hospitality toward others. She sang in choirs, attended Bible studies, and never stopped believing in miracles and the power of prayer. She expectantly looked forward to being healed and meeting her Savior. Her family greatly appreciates all the love and support they have received from those who knew and loved Jean.

The family will hold a visitation at Salem United Methodist Church (18217 Falls Rd. Hampstead, MD) on Saturday, December 6, from 10:00-11:00, followed immediately by a celebration of life service at 11:00.
