Jean Carroll Ragan Wroe

Jean Carroll Ragan Wroe, 81, of Glyndon, MD, passed away on October 27, 2018, in her home surrounded by family.  Born on August 13, 1937, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ronda Ray and Myrtle Beasley Ragan. She was the loving wife of 58 years to George B. Wroe.

Jean started her career teaching typing at Franklin High School.  She received her Masters of Education then retired at 61 years old from Carroll Community College – where they honored her with Assistant Professor Emeritus.

Christian Education was her passion.  She was instrumental in founding the GUMC Kindergarten program and nursery school.  These education programs eventually grew into the existing Preschool.

She loved Jesus Christ, her personal Savior, more than anything.  She prayed and held Bible study daily.  She was active in the church serving as Lay Leader, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and Founder of the Prayer Chain Intercessory.  She was a member of Admin Council, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee, Education Committee, and Pastor Parish Relations.  She attended Work Retreats and Missions and sang in the Choir for over 50 years.  In 2001, she received the UMW Service Award from the United Methodist Women's Association.

She was a dedicated disciple with her daily prayers and Bible study. Prayer was like breathing for Jean as she prayed for and loved everyone.

She was also extensively involved in her community serving on many boards.  She started the Community Tennis Group, which expanded to a significant social and sport gathering popular with the neighborhood ladies.   She also served on the Board of the Glyndon Swim Club.

She was a long time board member and President of Historic Glyndon Incorporated and also active in the Glyndon Community Association.

Surviving her in addition to her husband are children: Lee Wroe and wife Robyn, Don Wroe and wife Pat, Jay Wroe, and Georgeanne Lyon and husband Jon, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 9, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, at 1:00 pm at GLYNDON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 4713 Butler Road, Glyndon, MD 21071. Inurnment to follow in All Saints Cemetery, Reisterstown, MD.
