Jeanne Monroe Hammond age 87 of Glyndon, MD. died Saturday August 25, 2012 at her home.
Born Sept. 13, 1924 in Glyndon, MD. she was the daughter of the late Vera Monroe Wales and Ira LeRoy Wales IV.
She was the wife of 61 years to the late Charles Louis Hammond, JR. who died in 2008.
Mrs. Hammond was a 1941 graduate of Franklin School and was employed for the U.S.F. & G, Baltimore Gas and Electric, and Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company.
She did volunteer work at the Reisterstown Community Crisis Center for over twelve years and Mission of Mercy. She was a member of Glyndon United Methodist Church, Franklin Garden Club, Historic Glyndon and Glyndon Community Association. She was an avid bridge player and loved opera, flowers and gardening.
She is survived by a son James Hammond and daughter- in- law Carol Dickinson of Westminster, MD., a daughter Joyce Patten and son-in-law Steve Patten of Davidsonville, MD. and a son Roy Hammond of Glyndon, MD. Two grandsons, Ryan Patten of Miamisburg, Ohio and Jason Patten of Davidsonville, MD.
She is predeceased by a brother, Ira Wales V, a sister, V.V. Palen and two step grandsons, Daniel and Steven Schaeffer.
A memorial service will be held at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills, MD. 21117. on Saturday Sept. 1, 2012 at 11:00 am. with the Rev. Dr. Clarence Roark officiating.
Interment will be private.
