John Howard Asplen, Sr.

John "Pop" Howard Asplen, Sr., 71, of Westminster, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2017 in Towson, MD. Born on December 30, 1945, he was the son of the late Brennan Sr. and Eileen Asplen. He was the husband of Diane Frances Cammarata Asplen, his wife of 38 years.

John worked as an engineer for Verizon, and served his country in the National Guard. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed auctions, hunting on the family farm, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children: John Asplen, Jr., and wife Tracy of Seattle, WA, Dean Sparkman of Bel Air, MD, Mark Asplen and wife Jennifer of Reading, PA, and Todd Asplen and wife Christine of Parkton, MD, grandchildren: Cecilia, Andrew, Sarah, Alex, Delaney and Sophia, extended family: Lauren and Andrea, and siblings: Mary Jean Smith of Bulle Rock, MD, Eileen Blyer of Bel Air, MD, Brennan A. Asplen, Jr., of Florida, and Joseph Asplen of Florida.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 1, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 11 am at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester, MD. Interment is private.
