John William Brodbeck, Sr., 83, of Hampstead died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Sun Valley Ridge Overlook Assisted Living in Taylorsville.
Born October 23, 1930 in Greenmount, he was the son of the late Harry L. Brodbeck and Florence L. Blocher. He was the husband of the late Anna Rae Grothe Brodbeck, his wife of 45 years.
He was a member of Greenmount United Methodist Church and a former member of the Westminster Moose. He was a retired truck driver for Blue Diamond Trucking with 40 years of service and was a farmer for most of his life. He enjoyed working at his produce stand on Brodbeck Road, hunting, NASCAR, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his children Yvonne Brodbeck Shaw of Moyock, NC and John W. Brodbeck, Jr. and wife Beate of Hampstead; his grandchildren John W. Brodbeck, III and Jessica Brodbeck both of Hampstead, and Kimberly Shaw and Richard Shaw, Jr. both of Moyock, NC; his great-grandchildren Logan, Lauren, Richard, III, and Alexis Shaw all of Moyock, NC; and his great great-granddaughter Aubree Shaw of Moyock, NC; his siblings Audrey Brodbeck of Baltimore and Harold H. Brodbeck of Hampstead; and his many nieces and nephews especially Richard Brodbeck of New Oxford, PA.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law Richard Shaw, Sr. and his brother Carl O. Brodbeck.
The family will receive friends 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a service will follow at 3 p.m. with his pastor Rev. John Rudolph.
Interment will be in Greenmount United Methodist Church Cemetery, Greenmount.
