John C. Duke, Sr., 86 years old, of Christiansburg, VA., formally of Owings Mills, died Monday, July 20, at the Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, VA.
Born July 23, 1922 in Hamlet, N.C. he was the son of the late Edgar Crittendend Duke and Clara Belle McElwain Duke. He was predeceased by his wife, the late Florence Zimmerman Duke in 2005.
As a veteran of WWII, he served honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps. He had worked as a machinery builder with Black and Decker.
Mr. Duke is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: John C."Jack"Duke, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Christiansburg and Dennis Keith Duke and his wife Carol "Cari" of Story City, Iowa.
Grandfather of Emily Koch and her husband Paul, John C. Duke, III, and his wife Lindsey and Evan, Adam, Lindsay and Susan Duke. Great grandfather of Ava Leigh Duke.
Also survived by other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and a sister.
Friends may call on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills, MD 21117 where services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM. Rev.Tom Osterhaus officiating.
Interment in Lake View Memorial Park.
