John Joseph Etzel Jr., 76, of Manchester died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born Nov. 12, 1931, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John James and Martha Mary Emkey Etzel. He was the husband of Betty Lou Shaffer Etzel.
He was a graduate of Kenwood High school, class of 1949. He was an Air Force veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a retired meat cutter for Acme Markets.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons John Michael Etzel of Manchester and Paul William Etzel of Taneytown; a daughter, Dianne Carol Hardesty of Laurel, Del.; grandchildren Kristi, John Jr., Eric, Heather, and Michael; and great-grandchildren Dalton and Kendra.
He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Jean Etzel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, with the Rev. Stacy Marsh officiating. Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
