On May 19, 2017, John Berkeley Hearn,95, husband of Sallie Zoe Hearn; father of Michael Hearn; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in England on April 4, 1922, John Berkeley Hearn was the only son of three children. After school at Egerton House and then at Shrewsbury, he trained at the University of London, Middlesex Hospital, subsequently specializing in Radiology. As Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corp, he was attached to the Coldstream Guards in Malaya. He continued his medical practice in England until immigrating to the United States in 1963. Here, he practiced at Sinai, University of Maryland and St. Joseph Medical Center, publishing several academic papers. An energetic and adventurous amateur sportsman in rowing, squash, tennis, golf, and skiing, his main passion lay in flying – he was an avid glider and tow pilot, engaging in national competition and achieving his Diamond C. John's abilities extended to music, playing the cornet in jazz bands and privately. Always the life of the party, he could be relied upon to deliver engaging speeches. John Hearn was a man who lived a full life with integrity, passion and commitment, including his wife, son, friends and neighbors in his many activities and interests.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 9, at 11 am at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 232 Saint Thomas Lane, Owings Mills, MD 21117. Interment will be in the church cemetery, followed by a reception.
