John O. "Jack" Lawson, 80, of Bonita Springs, and formerly of Pikesville, MD and Reisterstown, MD, died Sunday, May 10, 2009.
He was born October 5, 1928 in Pikesville, the son of the late Elwood and Augusta (nee Liedke) Lawson.
In 1991, he and his wife moved to Bonita Springs after his retirement from the Baltimore Carpenters Local 101.
He was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
An avid flying enthusiast, he often flew his blue and white Cessna 150 over South Florida. He was a member of the Naples Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association and the AOPA.
His ready smile and friendly personality will be remembered by those who knew him.
He leaves behind to mourn his loss his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie (nee DeRisio); his loving children of whom he was very proud, John Anthony Lawson of Lott, TX and Rosemarie Bernarding and her husband Joseph of Eldersburg; and three precious grandchildren, Jacob Paul Lawson, Marisa Patricia Bernarding and Michela Rosa Bernarding.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Croghan and brother, Elwood Lawson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 10:00 p.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28294 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs.
Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at New Cathedral Cemetery 4300 Old Frederick Road, Baltimore.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Jack's name be made to the American Cancer Society, 4575 Via Royale, Ste. #110, Ft. Myers, FL 33919 or Catholic Charities, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
