John "Roy" Leroy Cooper, 85, of Hampstead, MD, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Long View in Manchester, MD. Born on July 15, 1938, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Franklin Cooper and Lillian Hanley Cooper. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Helen Frankowski Cooper.
Years ago, Roy worked in management at A&P Grocery Store. He was a handyman, and his expertise was in painting and carpentry. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Roy was the past president of Loch Raven Youth Club. He enjoyed doing puzzles and was a Notre Dame fan.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are children: Julie Cooper Barkley and husband Kip of Hampstead, MD, Mary Margaret Cooper Commodari and husband Victor of Manchester, Gregory Cooper of Harford County, MD, Catherine Cooper of Hampstead, MD, and grandchildren: Morgan, Madison, Andrew, Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Michael. He is also survived by his sister: Barbara Paul of Bethlehem, PA.
Roy was predeceased by his brother: William Cooper.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, February 6, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 7, at 11 am, at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester, MD, with Father Collin Poston as the celebrant.
Interment is private.
