Johannes Mathias "John" Neteler, 76, of Finksburg died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born October 19, 1934 in Germany, he was the son of the late Johannes Neteler and Maria Buecker Neteler. He was the husband of the late Margarete Therese Semrau Neteler, his wife of 50 years, who passed away September 27, 2009.

John and Margarete Neteler emigrated from Germany to Hanover, PA in 1964. They then moved to Baltimore, and eventually purchased their first home in Hampstead (1968). They moved to Finksburg in 1985.

Together they worked diligently at their business, John Neteler Auto Sales & Service, a fixture on route 140 in Finksburg for 35 years. When not at "the shop", John was most often seen riding his John Deere tractor tending to their immaculate yard.

After retirement, John enjoyed many travel adventures in the U.S. and Europe. In this past year he ventured with his daughter Kerstin to visit family in Europe and celebrated his 76th birthday in Hawaii with his daughters Beate and Kerstin and brother Ewald.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sponsoring their sports teams.

Surviving are his children and spouses Joachim and Joni Neteler of Mountain Top, PA, Beate and John Brodbeck, Jr. of Hampstead, and Kerstin Neteler of Emeryville, CA; his grandchildren Katie and Becca Neteler of Mountain Top, PA, and John III and Jessica Brodbeck of Hampstead; his brothers and sisters-in-law Gregor and Irmgard Neteler and Ewald and Ursula Neteler; his sister and brother-in-law Christa and Peter Wagner; his brother -in-law and sisters-in-law Heinrich and Anne Semrau and Hildegard Gubatz.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Heinrich Gubatz.

The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a memorial service will be held at 12 Noon..

Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 or to a charity of one's choice.
