Rev. John W. Street, 83, of Hampstead, passed peacefully, Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Longview Health Care Center in Manchester. Born April 21, 1933 in Honeycutt, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles H. Street and Flaude "Flo" E. Street, nee Tipton. He was the husband of Violet M. Street, nee Whited.
John graduated from Hampstead High School June 10, 1952. He took Bible studies with the Church of the Nazarene and the United Methodist Church. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 – 1956 and in the Naval Reserves until June 16, 1960 and was honorably discharged as a Yeomen Seamen. John's basic training was at Bainbridge Naval Training Center. He served at Patuxent River Naval Air Station and 2 Aircraft Carriers, USS Intrepid CVA-11 and USS Valley Forge CVS 45. John worked as a machinist for 15 years. John served as pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church, New Windsor for 14 years (1981-1995) while also employed as an Insurance Representative for Prudential for over 21 years. He filled the pulpit many times for pastors when they were away. He served in numerous capacities and on church boards for 52 years. For many years, he served as Sunday school Superintendent, Sunday school teacher and also taught Bible prophecy. His last position held was pastor of Prayer and Visitation at Westminster First Church of the Nazarene. He had a passion for winning souls to Christ and studying & teaching Bible prophecy.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters and sons-in-law Connie J. & Eugene Cole of Upperco and Terry L. & Raymond Miller of Hanover, PA; sister and brother-in-law Betty and John T. Jones of Venice, FL; and brother-in-law and wife Wayne Newton and Kay Whited of Gate City, VA; granddaughter and husband, Stephanie R. and Tom Burkhalter of Hanover, PA; grandson and wife Michael and Jennifer Miller of Westminster, MD; great-grandsons Tyler and Kyle Burkhalter of Hanover, PA; great-granddaughters Emma and Mackenzee Miller of Westminster; nephew Keith Jones of Venice, FL; niece and husband Melissa and Jason Plank of Hanover, PA; nephews and wives Christopher and Amy Whited of Hanover, PA, Philip and Amy Whited of Parker, CO; nephews Cal Shafer of Fort Myers, FL and Brad and Jessie Shaffer of Hagerstown. He was also survived by 9 great-nephews and 1 great-niece. John was predeceased by his son, David W. Street. The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester (21102) where a funeral will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday with his pastor Rev. Chris Brammer officiating. Interment will be in the Greenmount U.M.C. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rev.
