John Edward Vey, "Pop", age 75 of Manchester, died December 21, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. Born May 24, 1941, he was the son of the late Alfred John Vey and the late Martha Anna Elgert Vey. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Claire Pica Vey, daughter Kristin Lynn Chamberlin and husband Gary, grandsons Zachary, Ethan, Logan and Mikaele, sister Linda Vey Pugh and husband Wayne, nephew Bryan and his wife Mandy, niece Julie and her sons Noah and Dimitri.

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and the Order of DeMolay. He graduated from Catonsville High School in 1959 and went on to get a degree from the Seibel Institute of Technology with a degree in Biology. He proudly served in the Unites States Army Reserves from 1963-1971 where he rose to the rank of Reserve Warrant Officer.

He started his civilian career in Research and Development at McCormick Spice Company, and worked tirelessly throughout his career as a Food Scientist. He travelled extensively for work until his retirement in 2007 as Executive Vice-President of Key Mix Corporation. After retirement, he started his own consulting company, Bakers Source LLC, and continued to consult to various Bakery Corporations until September 2016.

After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his beloved grandsons. He was an avid outdoorsman. He also loved to watch his grandson perform with the Westminster High School Marching Band. He loved all the music programs. He was a staunch advocate for Gun Safety and was credentialed by the National Rifle Association, the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Maryland as a senior firearms instructor. He also taught Maryland Hunter Safety Education Classes. He was an invaluable member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Manchester, MD.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 3-5 and 7-9pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11am. Interment is private.
