Joseph Melvin "Mel" Harmon, Jr., 89, of Sykesville died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born October 29, 1923 in Garrison, he was the son of the late Joseph Melvin Harmon, Sr. and Margaret Brown Harmon.
He was the husband of Charlotte Virginia "Snooks" Harmon, his wife of 68 years.
He was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy and was a retired machine technician for Amtote. He was a life member of the Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Joan M. Glock of Frederick, Joseph M. "Mel" Harmon, III of Berkley Springs, WV, Jack M. Harmon of Lutherville, Richard C. Harmon of Wilmington, DE, and Marjorie D. Dickey of Sykesville; his siblings James Harmon of Gamber and Pat Greene of Sterling, VA; his 17 grandchildren, his 30 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his daughter Virginia Ann Love, his brothers Frank, Johnny, and Billy Harmon, an infant sister, and his step brother Elmer Hale.
The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday.
Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills.
