Joseph S. Rider Jr., 79, of Westminster died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born May 23, 1928, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Joseph S. Rider Sr. and Emma Bricker Rider. He was the husband of Dorothy Rider, his wife of 55 years.
He was an honorably discharged veteran of the Army and served in the Korean War. He was a route salesman with various baked goods suppliers.
He was a member of the American Legion Dewey Lowman Post 109 in Arbutus and more recently with the American Legion Hampstead Post 200. He enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law Joseph S. Rider III and Lana Rider of Glen Burnie, Wayne M. and Shirley Rider and Daniel K. and Christine Rider, all of Westminster; daughter and son-in-law Debra A. and Todd Snook of Catonsville; a sister, Bessie Riddle of Reisterstown; grandchildren Jessica and her husband William, Michael, Amanda, Adam, Samantha, Shayne, Shane and Dylan; and a great-grandchild, Skylark.
He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with the Rev. Eugene Nickol officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
