Kenneth R. Leister, 75, of Manchester died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 24, 1933 in Carroll County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ira L. Leister and Ethel M. Dell Leister. He was the husband of Imogene E. Roser Leister, who he married June 8, 1952, his wife of 56 years.

Mr. Leister retired with 41 years of service from Greenmount Fuel Company of Melrose where he was the manager. He was member of Grace Bible Church in Manchester. He enjoyed playing golf with his good friends and watching football, baseball, hockey, and basketball on television.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Gary R. Leister of Westminster, Tina M. Leister Myers and her husband Mark L. Myers of Hanover, PA, Brian E. Leister and his wife Jacqueline R. Leister of Westminster; his grandchildren Amy L. Andrews of Westminster, Jessie M. and Jenna M. Myers of Hanover, PA, Chelsea D. Leister and Richard D. Leister of Westminster, Matthew E. and Olivia N. Leister of Westminster; his sisters Hazel M. Bixler of Westminster and Loretta J. Basler of Hampstead.

He was predeceased by his son David A. Leister, who was stillborn on October 7, 1957, his daughter Tammy D. Leister Andrews, who died on January 19, 2004, his granddaughter Katie, who died in November 1986, his brothers Raymond Grant Leister and Marvin Eugene Leister.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester with his pastor Rev. Paul Wenzel of Grace Bible Church officiating. Interment will be in the Pipe Creek Cemetery in Linwood.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Eldersburg, MD 21784.
