Kenneth Gordon "Kenny" Whitcomb, 80, of Reisterstown died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Transitions Health Care in Sykesville.
Born Nov. 17, 1927, in Pikesville, he was the son of the late Elmer Fisher Whitcomb and Mary Elizabeth Carroll Whitcomb. He was the husband of Loleta "Pip" Catherine Pipkin Whitcomb.
He served with the Navy during World War II. He was a carpenter with George Klunk Construction. Even after retirement, he held an interest in work. For many years he was involved with slow-pitch softball, starting early on with coaching and later becoming commissioner of the area league. After retiring he became passionate about reading, which he enjoyed doing in his front lawn under a big tree.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He loved his cocker spaniel, Minnie Pearl.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children and spouses Stephen Charles and Susan Whitcomb of Westminster; Vicki Lynn Kriner of Tampa, Fla., Kim Diana Cooper and Tom Cox of New Windsor, Scott Craig and Chun Nam Whitcomb of Ocala, Fla., and Michael and Cheryl Whitcomb of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; grandchildren Tara and husband Brian, Amber, Travis, Meagan, Kenny, Jade and Sadé; a great-granddaughter, Jordan; and sisters Dorothy Lookingbill of Westminster, Charlotte Clark of Reisters-town and Anna "Sis" Swank of Timonium.
He was predeceased by brothers Richard, Roland, Jimmy and Tommy Whitcomb.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with the Rev. Clarence L. Roark officiating.
Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
