Linda Lu Dorer, 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016 with her loving family by her side after battling mesothelioma. She was the wife of Stephen K. Dorer for 41 years. Born on November 1, 1953 in McKeesport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ellen Louise Cipperley and William Merrill Clark. Linda graduated from Towson High School in 1971 and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Towson State Teacher's College in 1975. Linda was a school bus driver for South Western School District from 1980-1985 and then worked for AT&T until she retired in 2015. Linda was a very kind, happy, and loving wife, friend, mother, and grandmother. Linda loved spending time with her family, traveling, reading, crocheting, and faithfully watched Days of Our Lives every week since 1971. Linda and her husband Steve traveled to 31 different states and Canada in their motor home. Some of their adventures included climbing Mt. Washington in a jeep, panning for gold in the Yukon, singing on the Grand Ole Opry, seeing historical sights such as Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore, and visiting many of our country's beautiful state parks. Also while on their trips, Linda and Steve got to participate in two events that were recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
In addition to her husband, Linda is survived by son Douglas Dorer and his wife Melissa of Hanover, son Sean Dorer and his wife Ingrid of Jacksonville, NC, daughter Stephanie Laughman and her husband Robert of Hanover, daughter Melissa Myers and her husband Jeremy of Loganville, brother Douglas Clark and his wife Lisa of Phoenix, MD, sister Candy Dietzway of Baltimore, MD., sister-in-law Laurie Buck of Hastings, MN, 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A. 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD on Thursday, September 8 from 3-5 and 7-9PM with a memorial service on Friday at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
