LISE M. SZPARAGA passed away on March 2, 2010. She was a long-time resident of Reisterstown as well as along-time member of Sacred Heart Church. She was 71 years old and had suffered from Alzheimer's.
She was the wife of Frank V. Szparaga of 47 years.
Lise was the eldest of five children born to Romeo and Rachel Legare in Montreal, Quebec.
She was raised and educated in that city, graduated from Sacre Coeur Hospital's Nursing School in 1961. She worked various nursing duties in many of Canada's provinces. She relocated to the States upon her marriage and began to raise her family.
She was the mother of daughters Elyse Szparaga and Kathy Derr, married to her husband Scott and sons, Dan Szparaga, married to his wife Cindy and Marc, married to his wife Patty and Luc Courtemanche. She leaves behind her sisters Hughette and Murielle and brothers Romeo and Raymond, all of Montreal.
After all of the children were in school, Lise resurrected her nursing career, working in various hospitals in the Baltimore area including Baltimore County, Stella Maris and Bonnie Blink. She then became Director of Nursing at Augsburg Nursing Home and later at North Oaks Retirement Center in Pikesville.
She was an avid reader and was very interested in home decorating and antiques.
She was also quite active at Sacred Heart parish where she served as PTA president, was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, helping with the annual flea market and established the Parish Nursing Program.
In retirement her greatest love turned toward her grandchildren, ten of whom survive her. They are Alexis, Katelyn, Drew, Amanda, Sydney, Alec, Zachary, Dalton, Bradley and Madison. All of them were a constant joy to her, whom they called "Nana".
The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glyndon, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon.
Interment in All Saints Cemetery.
