M. Eugene 'Gene' Bosley, a banking executive for many years in the Baltimore area, died unexpectedly at his Upperco home on March 12; he was 76.

The son of Milford and Dorothy Bosley, Gene was raised on the family dairy farm. As he liked to tell it, it was a true 'working' farm where every member of the family had their chores – helping with planting and harvesting, caring for the animals, and tending to maintenance 24/7. He recalled milking cows before leaving for school and again in the afternoon before starting his homework. That was the beginning of a lifelong love of the land and where his appreciation of hard work was born.

He was the third of five generations to graduate from Franklin High School. In 1965 he was drafted into the Army at the height of the Vietnam War. On the eve of leaving for basic training, he got a call asking him to audition for the National Guard Band as a trumpeter. After completing basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC he was assigned to a unit where he and other band members would board a bus each morning and be dropped off at local cemeteries to play Taps at funerals for service members who were killed in the war. He was humbled by that experience and believed without that last minute call he likely would have been one of those casualties.

After his service, he began his near 60-year banking career; first as a trainee at Maryland National Bank where he worked for 35 years, retiring as a Senior Vice President of the Private Banking/Wealth Management Division. He left retirement to work in a similar position at Wells Fargo Bank and most recently was semi-retired as a commercial loan officer with Farmers & Merchants Bank; he had planned to retire on April 28 of this year. He was respected and well liked by his coworkers and colleagues.

Gene and his wife, Tricia (nee Patricia Hoff) married and moved to Glyndon in 1983 where they lived for 35 years, lovingly restoring and maintaining a 'century' house while raising their family. In 2016, as empty nesters, he and his wife built a home on the family farm, where his siblings also reside today.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his son Matthew Bosley and his wife Megan and daughter Kate Smith and her husband Blake, along with his adoring grandchildren Blake, Taylor and Morgan Bosley and Philip, Ellie and Connor Smith, who affectionately called him 'Gene'. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Kenneth, and is survived by his brother Garry, his wife Sally Bosley and his sister Sherry Crowl and her husband Paul, as well as many nieces and nephews and loving in-laws.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18 at 1 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, a period of visitation will immediately follow. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Franklin High School Athletic Boosters or the Upperco Volunteer Fire Company.
