M. Darlene Knipel, 70, of Manchester died Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson.

Born June 28, 1943 in Baltimore County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Turnbaugh, Sr. and Bertha Anna Trump Turnbaugh. She was the wife of 45 years to Ober Stewart Knipel, Jr.

She was retired from the Maryland State Police with 33 years of service where she had worked as secretary and was a 1961 graduate of Franklin High School. She was an avid collector of thimbles and enjoyed watching and cheering for the Orioles and Ravens. In her spare time, she enjoyed her cats Buddy and the late Sammi, and her flowers.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children Karen Elaine Laster of Eldersburg and Kevin Eric Knipel of Baltimore; her siblings Eileen Pacheco of NC, Charles H. Turnbaugh, Jr. of Westminster, Carole Ann Turnbaugh of Finksburg, Jane Sharp of Hampstead, Jonathan Douglas Turnbaugh of Finksburg, and Dennis Turnbaugh of Ellicott City; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 2014, tribute to Karen Laster in memory of her mother, 200 E. Joppa Road, Suite 407, Towson, MD 21286.
