Mabel Elizabeth Brooks Walker, 88, of Alesia died Thursday, April 29, 2009 at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester.

Born near Hampstead on August 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Elwood Brooks, Sr., and Jesse Mae Harris Brooks. She was the wife of the late Raymond M. Walker, her husband of 44 years, who died on April 6, 1988.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the Black Rock Church of the Brethren for over fifty years, where she had taught Sunday school for many years. In addition, she had served on the building and nominating committees.

She was an accomplished seamstress, making many quilts and she did alteration on her antique treadle-type sewing machine.

For several years, she had been a member of the Westminster Moose, and especially enjoyed dining in restaurants and many social activities.

Surviving is her son Robert Walker of Alesia, her daughter and son in law Kathy M. and Jack Reed of Manchester; her grandchildren Sherry Pyles, Brenda Fernandez, and Robert Reed; great grandchildren Cody, Paul, Courtney, Kendall, Mary, and Dakota.

She was predeceased by her sisters Monza "Skeeter", Doris, and Gladys; her brothers Arthur, Donald, Lawrence, Richard, Robert, and Thomas, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Black Rock Church of the Brethren, 3864 Glenville Road, Glenville, PA.

Interment will be in the Black Rock Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to Black Rock Church of the Brethren, 3864 Glenville Road, Glenville, PA 17329.
