Listen to Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Morgan Ridgely, 92, of Upperco, MD, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at her home with her children by her side. Born on July 22, 1930, in Curtis Park, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Morgan and Una Diehl Morgan. She was the wife of the late John "Del" Ridgely, who passed away in 1975.

Peggy taught at St. Paul's School for Girls for over 20 years. She was an avid reader, a lover of turtles and enjoyed knitting and cross stitch, but her passion was making jams and jellies, which she sold for over three decades at the Steam Show in Arcadia, earning her the nickname "The Jelly Lady" from her loyal customers.

An impressive and resilient woman, she maintained and resided on the small farm she moved to the day after her wedding in 1960. Only begrudgingly, and in the past year, did she quit mowing the fields by herself.

With a heart for community service, she volunteered with several organizations, including NESAP and Manna House. There's no telling how many of her knitted winter caps are still floating around downtown Baltimore, keeping heads warm. She knitted hundreds of them. A talented artist and ceramicist, her vases and paintings live on in the homes of her friends and relatives.

Surviving her are her children: son John D. Ridgely, Jr. and his wife Mary, daughter Meg Ridgely, daughter Sarah Ridgely, and grandchildren Alex and Olivia.

Peggy was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Morgan, and sister Ann Cascorbi.

A graveside service for immediate family will be held at St. John's Church Western Run Parish, with a Celebration of Life Memorial to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to either the Upperco Volunteer Fire Department, 5415 Arcadia Avenue, Upperco, MD 21155, or to the charity of your choice.
