Marie Lillian Steele Kirkland, 63, of Manchester died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Born February 16, 1948 in St. Joseph, MO, she was the daughter of the late George Phillip Steele, Sr. and Lillian Mae Brewer Steele. She was the wife of Sanford Holmes Kirkland, III, her husband of 41 years.
She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and was active at the North Carroll Senior Center where she played Bridge and Mahjong as well as teaching others to play Mahjong.
She held a BS degree in Broadcasting with a minor in Psychology.
Years ago, she worked as a Radio Announcer and the Director of Traffic for Radio Stations. In addition, she worked for 25 years as a Social Worker for the state of Nebraska, working with aid to dependent children and with medically handicapped children.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children and their spouses Jocelyn Marie and Robert Spreitzer, Jacob Alexander and Shannon Kirkland, and Jessica Abigail and Michael Amato; her grandchildren Zachary, Cade, and Acton Spreitzer, Lillian and Jackson Kirkland, and Vincent and Victor Amato; her nephew James Michael Steele; and her great nieces Britni and Shelby Steele.
She was predeceased by her brothers Phillip, Jr., and Leonard Steele.
A private cremation will be held at All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester and a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. George's Episcopal Church, 2434 Cape Horn Road, Hampstead with the Rev. Stephanie Yancy officiating.
