Marlin Ray Michaels, 77, of Manchester, MD, passed away at the Dove House in Westminster, MD, on April 10, 2024, after a brief, sudden illness. Born on September 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Herbert Michaels, Sr., and Cora Michaels of Union Bridge. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Viveca Michaels.
Marlin attended Elmer Wolf, Francis Scott Key, Western Maryland College (Now McDaniel) and Loyola University in Baltimore, graduating with a degree in Accounting. He served in the U.S. Army, honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant when posted at Ft. George G. Meade in the military intelligence department.
Marlin was employed by the Federal Government as a computer programmer for 35 years with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), he retired in 2007. He continued programming as a contract employee for an additional 16 years, retiring in March of 2024. Over the years, he developed skills in carpentry, concrete work, plumbing, and electricity. He was an active member of the Antler Rod and Gun Club of Glencoe, PA, the Seitzland Rifle Club near New Freedom, PA, and the Train Collectors Association. He enjoyed hunting, crabbing, and collecting model trains. He was a devoted father and grandfather; years ago, he built a playground and swimming pool in the backyard for his grandchildren. A highlight for him was taking his grandchildren on annual trips to Strasburg, PA, to ride the train and visit the model train museums.
Surviving him in addition to his wife, is a daughter Courtney Wright and husband Colin, son-in-law Zach Nall, and grandchildren Theodore, Joshua, and Holland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marlin was one of eight siblings Herbert Jr., Ronald, Bernard, Lawrence, Gene, Leonard Michaels, and Rita Rountree.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 14, from 4-7 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 15, at 10:30 am.
Interment to follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery, Woodsboro, MD.
