Mary Catherine Kearney passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at Fairhaven Retirement Community. Ms. Kearney, known to many as "Cass", was an independent living resident of Fairhaven for several years and moved to the assisted living unit in early 2020.
Born Mary Catherine Drechsler in West Baltimore on April 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Alice and Robert Drechsler. She was predeceased by her first husband Charles Gene Sterner and also by her second husband Brendan Joseph Kearney. Ms. Kearney was also predeceased by three sisters Rita, Alice and Eileen as well as three brothers, Robert, Edward, and Joseph. Survivors include a sister, Kathleen Scaldaro (Anthony) and a brother, Frederick Drechsler (Theresa). Ms. Kearney is also survived by two children, Michael D. Sterner (Jean) and Thomas K. Sterner (Linda), three grandchildren, Jennifer Spencer (Nick), Russell Sterner (Catie) and Stacie Sterner (Shamyr). Her great grandchildren include Brendan and Lilly Spencer as well as Reagan and Madison Sterner. Additional survivors include three stepsons in Dublin, Ireland, Peter Kearney, Mark Kearney and John Kearney and a stepdaughter, Sharon Kearney of Los Angeles, CA. As well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 26, from 7 – 9 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102. A Requiem Mass to celebrate her life will take place at 9 am on Saturday, March 27, at Saint Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester, MD 21102. Interment to follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park, Marriottsville, MD.
