Mary Jane Newman, age 87, resident of Manchester, MD passed away peacefully, Wednesday November 12, 2014 at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center in Hanover, PA.
Born January 22, 1927 in Adams County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cletus and Anna Foulk Bair. She was the wife of the late John Stewart Newman, who died in 2009.
She was a retired elementary school teacher for Carroll County Public Schools. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Newman Wright of Durham, North Carolina and Janel K. Hargest and husband Tex of Hanover, PA; and grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin, Sarah, Lauren and Eric.
She was predeceased by brothers, Glenn and Theron Bair.
The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1: 30 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive where the funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. with the Revs. Matthew S. and Norma L. Schenning officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
In lieu flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Elementary School, 3224 York Street, Manchester, MD 21102.
