With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Lynch Whitcraft, an extraordinary artist, poet, and a radiant soul who brought joy and light to everyone she encountered. She was born on March 17, 1944, and left us on January 25, 2025, at age 80, leaving behind a legacy that words can scarcely capture.
Mary was larger than life. A creator of beauty, her art transcended all mediums from painting to drawing to card making, and her love of poetry and the written word poured from her heart. Her work was an extension of her spirit—bold, authentic, and full of passion.
But it wasn't just her artwork and beautiful cards that made her unforgettable. It was her remarkable ability to light up a room with her laughter, kindness, and boundless energy. She had a gift for seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary, and her presence brought out the best in everyone around her. Each person who had the honor of meeting her felt as if they were the most important person in the world. She gave freely of her love, her wisdom, and her time, touching the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her.
Her legacy will live on in the works of art she created, the words she wrote, and in the hearts of all who loved her. She is survived by her husband: Craig Conway Whitcraft, her children: Jeff Sharp and wife Sally of Elmira, NY, Susan Hauck and husband Shawn of Boca Raton, FL, grandchildren: Robert, Stephanie, and Sebastian, stepdaughter: Sandra Marie Whitcraft of Westminster, MD, and step grandson: Josh and his children: Saint and Nova. She is also survived by her siblings: Michael Lynch of Reisterstown, MD, Anne Collins of Reisterstown, MD, and Elizabeth Myers of Westminster, MD. They will all carry forward her spirit of creativity, joy, and love.
She was predeceased by her parents: Charles Robert Lynch, Sr. and Mary Katherine Kerr, and brothers: Edward Lynch and Charles "Bob" Robert Lynch, Jr.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, from 9:30 - 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD 21071, where a Funeral Mass will begin at 11 am. We will gather to remember and honor her vibrant, larger-than-life, beautiful soul.
Rest in peace, Mary. You were more than we could ever express, and we are forever grateful for the light you brought into our lives.
Arrangements are by the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., Owings Mills, MD.
