Maurice Edward Wisner, 93, of New Oxford died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at The Brethren Home in New Oxford.
Born January 9, 1918 in Carroll County, Maryland, he was the son of the late John S. Wisner and Nettie Reiniman Wisner. He was the husband of Helen Viola Smith Wisner, his wife of 72 years.
He retired from Black and Decker and owned nursery and landscaping business until 1991. Through the years he was a farmer until he sold his farm in 1969, worked for Lippy's Store in Manchester as well as delivering eggs in Baltimore and working for a furniture factory in Glen Rock, PA.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Alesia, where he served on the church council and as Sunday School Superintendent. He also taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.
He enjoyed traveling, one of his first trips was to Niagara Falls, and he also enjoyed fishing and he has fished from Lake Michigan to the Chesapeake Bay.
He was a volunteer at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster after his retirement from Black and Decker.
He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter and son-in-law Edna LaRue and the Rev. Donald L. Holloway; his son and daughter-in-law Norman Gene and Penny Wisner all of Hanover; a granddaughter Whitney Wisner of Hanover; and his sisters Grace Vacek of Hanover, and Anne Mae Sterner of Abbottstown, PA.
He was predeceased by his brothers Joshua, Charles, Elmer, and James Wisner; and his sister Helen Luckabaugh.
The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Linda Lewis officiating.
Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Alesia.
