Maxine J. Marshall, 91, of Reisterstown, MD, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. Born on August 11, 1930, in Bryn Mawr, PA, she was the daughter of the late Luther B. Chester and Essie Hight Chester. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Michael Marshall, who passed away in 2012.
Maxine will be best known by her family as a loving and supportive mother. Her children have been well-educated, well provided for, and unconditionally loved. Maxine served her community by volunteering as the PTA president for Cedamere Elem., ministering to members of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Ri, and supporting troubled addicts during their rehab. orientation. Maxine also had a career as an Executive Secretary at Bendix Radio, Westinghouse, and Maryland State Teacher's Association. As for her friends and neighbors, she will be remembered for her interests in the arts. As a gifted professional artist, she was one of few people in the world who mastered encaustics which is an extremely difficult technique of painting with bee's wax. She was most known for her award-winning city-scapes, country-side scenes, and abstracts painted in acrylic. She traveled extensively around the east coast selling her work in art shows and galleries. In addition, her prize-winning photography will not be forgotten because of her unique manipulation technique which changed the look of the photograph. Maxine adopted her love of singing at a very young age while in the choir at Hiss United Methodist Church in Parkville. When Maxine was in her 50s, she joined the Senior Star Showcase community theatre where she danced and sang for over 30 years. She entertained audiences all over Maryland as well as participated in senior competitions in Florida and Las Vegas. As a loving wife, she often accompanied her husband Tony to Cape Canaveral, Houston, and Andrew's Airforce Base as he trained the NASA astronauts for the experiments used while in space.
Surviving her are children: Jeffrey Douglas Graul, Todd Anthony Marshall, Dawn Marshall Gardner, and grandchildren: Heather, Jennifer, Christopher, Hayden, Hayley, Michael, Alec, and Josh.
She was predeceased by her son: Alan David Marshall, grandson: Hudson G. Cervantes, and siblings: Robert L. Chester and Nellie Stull Thurber.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 19, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20 at 1:30 pm.
Interment to follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, MD.
