Melvin Leroy Dell, 82, of Westminster died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Longview Nursing Home in Manchester.
Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Snydersburg, he was the son of the late Albert and Edna Giggards Dell. He was the husband of Betty Louise Smith Dell.
He was a retired maintenance man for Black and Decker Inc. He had also worked for Aspen Tree Co. and the Town of Manchester years ago.
He had been a manager for little league baseball in Manchester. He was a member of the Hampstead American Legion and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester. He was a life member of the Manchester volunteer fire company. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Thomas LeRoy Dell of Utah and Wanda Kay Weber of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters Ann Vendetta of Hawaii, Mary Bosley of Delaware, Flo Cook of Virginia and Violet Black and Ester Yingling, both of Pennsylvania; brothers Frank Dell of Hampstead and John Dell of Pennsylvania; grandchildren Jami, Josie, Tiffany and Robbie; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Daniel.
He was predeceased by sisters Lillian Uhler, Ruth Leese, June Bumgardner and Dorothy Hasting.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, with the Revs. Matthew and Norma Schenning officiating. Interment will be in New Lutheran Cemetery in Manchester.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
