Listen to Obituary

Michael Lynn Hare, 63, of Biglerville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, surrounded by his wife of 43 years Dottie (Blank) Hare, and daughters, Chasity Hare and Tiffany Myers and husband Cody.  Born on September 3, 1961, in Hanover, PA, he was predeceased by his mother Mable Hare, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his nephew Doug Saunders. His surviving family includes in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and aunt Doris (Shaeffer) Hare. Mike is also survived by his family dog, Buddy and grand dog, Browning.

Mike was a 1979 graduate of Westminster High School.  He received his welding certification at Carroll Co. Vo-Tech. Starting at a young age he was employed by Westminster Stockyard for many years. He was employed at Baughman Valley Farms for about 5 years before starting at Caples Concrete; where he learned the trade of finishing concrete, about 5 years prior to starting his own business in 1987. H&B Concrete, LLC was successful for more than 20 years. In 2000, Mike and Dottie established the family farm, Critter Hill Farm, LLC. As a member and former director of the Maryland Hereford Association, they have been breeding and raising Hereford cattle ever since. Mike and Dottie started raising turkeys in 2007. He is also a partial owner/operator of Country Vittles from Critter Hill Farm, LLC (est. 2012) with his wife and daughter, Chasity.

Mike was well known in the Carroll County community.  He has many friends and acquaintances from through the years. He previously volunteered at Charles Carroll School and reccouncil.  He has been volunteering at Carroll county 4-H fair for over 25 years. Through which time, he has enjoyed the livestock sale, showing cattle and working on 4-H projects with his kids; and in recent years, with his great nieces and great nephews. "His name is Mike" he's a philosopher and teacher of the concept of "object and angles"; a true MacGyver that could make anything work.

He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being a farmer. He enjoyed time with his wife, going to antique sales and auctions.  He enjoyed inventing things, gator rides with buddy, racing, fishing, hunting and deer watching.  He loved smoking and grilling meats. Mike was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, uncle and friend.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 13, from 5-7 pm, at St. Mary's United Church of Christ, 1441 Mayberry Rd, Westminster, MD 21158. A memorial service will take place on Monday, October 14, at 11 am, at St. Mary's UCC, with Pastor Sam Chamelin officiating.
