Michael Layne Schaeffer, 73, of Union Bridge died Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Dove House in Westminster.
Born March 15, 1940 in Carroll County, MD, he was the son the late Darows Schaeffer and Irene M. Schmidt Schaeffer.
He was the husband of the late Diane Kathryn Schaeffer his wife of 53 years, who died January 17, 2013.
He was a carpenter for Porter Brothers. He was a member of the Rabbit Breeders Association and raised and showed Checkered Giant Rabbits. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors and his dogs Cha Cha and Teddi.
Surviving are his children Michael Schaeffer and wife Debbie, and Kathy Fritz and companion Jessie Yox all of Union Bridge; brothers George W. Schaeffer and wife Sherri of Sykesville and Donald L. Schaeffer and wife Sharon of Fairfield, PA; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.
A private cremation was held at All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester and the interment will private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
