Miles Burnel Bortner, 79, of Shrewsbury, PA formerly of Westminster and Lineboro died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Manor Care York South Nursing Home.

Born on June 19, 1930 in Lineboro, he was the son of the late Miles Alvin Bortner and Cora May Haines Bortner. He was the husband of the late Carrie Aline Sullivan Bortner, his wife of 24 years, who died in 1999.

He worked Emeco Company in Hanover, PA for 38 years and was a member of the AFL & CIO, Local 6288 and he worked for years for Wertz Farm and Power Equipment.

He was life member of the Lazarus United Church of Christ in Lineboro, Hanover and Westminster Moose Lodges, where he held various offices, which included being a Past District President and was a life member the Westminster Fire and Hose Company and the Lineboro Volunteer Fire Company.

He was member of the Carroll County Fire Police. He was also a member of the Moose Legionnaire Keystone #41.

He was a member of the Catoctin Association of the United Church of Christ, where he was an officer and a member of the AARP and National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.

He was a lifetime member of the Handyman Club of America and was member of the Seniors Action of Carroll County. He was an honorary member the Steel workers of America and was a member of the North Carroll Jaycees.

During his time with Moose Lodges, he received many awards including Honorary Citizen Mooseheart 2002 and an Honorary Life Membership to Moosehaven Lodge #3001.

Surviving is his sister Arlene May Bortner Sterner of Hanover, PA and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased b y his brother Clyde H. Bortner and his special friend Mary Utz.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Friday until time of funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Lazarus Church of Christ, 5101 South Church Street, Lineboro with Rev. Sam Chamelin officiating.

Interment will be in Lineboro Cemetery, Lineboro.
