Myron Herbert Diehl, Jr. 59, of Hampstead died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born on April 4, 1951 in York, PA, he was the son of Elda Herman Diehl Bowen and the late Myron Herbert Diehl, Sr. He was the husband of Joanne Mary Pope Diehl, his wife of 16 years.

He was a Risk Control Specialist for CNA and was member of Greenmount United Methodist Church where he was a former head of and served on the board of trustees. He served on the Hampstead Board of Zoning Appeals.

He was a veteran of both the United States Army and Navy. He served in both the Vietnam War, where he served 3 tours of duty and was awarded a Bronze Star for Valor, and the first Persian Gulf War. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Army. In the Army he served with the 214th Intelligence Division. While in the Navy, he served aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga and was involved in the retrieval of Apollo 17 spacecraft and Sky Lab.

He loved to travel, scuba dive, and especially loved spending time with his wife and children.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Rachel Marie Diehl and David Myron Diehl; his sisters and brothers in law Kathy and Steve Stowers, Carol and Craig Cronin, Ellen Diehl, and Edie and Greg Moyer; his father in law and mother in law Paul, Sr. and Frances Pope; his brother in law and sister in law Paul, Jr., and Christy Pope; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester with a funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Greenmount United Methodist Church, 2001 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, MD 21074 with Rev. Patricia Dols officiating.

Interment will be in Greenmount Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Diehl Childrens' Education Fund, please make your checks payable to Susquehanna Bank and send them to Susquehanna Bank c/o Joanne M. Diehl's Chidlrens' Education Fund, 275 Clifton Boulevard, Westminster, MD 21157, Attention: Cynthia Ziegler.
