Oliver C. Steger age 94 of Hanover, PA formerly of Manchester, MD died Friday Feb. 28, 2014 at the York Hospital in York, PA.
Born July 7, 1919 in Manchester he was the son of the late John and Mabel Steger. He was the husband of Mary L. Fridinger Steger.
He worked on a farm with his parents until moving to Baltimore where he worked as an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor in the Bethlehem shipyards during WWII where they were building one Liberty
Ship a day. He was very active in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Hanover Industrial Management Club. He retired at Keystone Seneca Wire Cloth in Hanover as the Plant Engineer. He was on the Hanover School Board for 12 years and a member of the Founders Club of the Brethren Home. He served the Manchester Volunteer Fire Dept., for 50 years, was a member of the Hanover Elks Club. Having a pilot's license he flew many small single engine aircraft both land and amphibious. He enjoyed camping and traveled extensively in the US.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 75 years are sons: Gregory Steger and wife Linda (Graf) of Hanover, PA and James Steger and wife Carol ( Easley) of Greensboro, NC.
He was predeceased by a brother: Daniel Steger.
Funeral services and interment will be private.
