Patricia Marie Rost, age 81, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at her home in Patriots Landing, Quinton, Virginia, after a prolonged illness. She was born in Saint John's, Newfoundland, a British Dominion, on March 13, 1943, to American Army Sergeant James John Zidar and Bridget Donna Zidar (nee Donnelly), of Saint John's. She moved to the United States at the age of nine months and became a Naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1948. Pat was predeceased by her parents, a sister Judith Ann Zidar, and son James Matthew Rost.
She was the sister of Joan Friedland, Barbara Elisha (Udi), James M. Zidar, John Zidar (Ellen) and sister-in-law of Richard Rost (Joyce) and aunt to the late Emily Friedland, Amos Friedland (Phoebe Ryder), Eli Friedland, Hadley Friedland (Ken McDonald), Jess Friedland, Renee Fuller (Geoff), Jacob Friedland, Michal Elisha-Alon (Yonatan Alon), Karen Elisha, Amir Arad-Elisha (Aya), Oren Elisha (Yaeli Banin), Rachel Zidar (Jacob Bikshorn), Eric Zidar, Jaclyn Zidar, Peter Rost (Aaron) and Sarah Cross (Dave).
As a child of a military father, Pat moved several times between Maryland and Alabama with a three-year stint in Hawaii after which she was ready to put down permanent roots. She graduated from Saint Stephens High School – Bradshaw in 1960 and attended Towson State College where she met Charles McKinley Rost. Pat and Mick were married on September 15, 1962. They became the proud parents of Jennifer White (Charles), Jon Christian Rost (Liz Arentzen), and James Matthew Rost and were later blessed to become the grandparents of Matthew Evan White and Ryan Patrick White. They lived in Orchard Beach and then moved to northern Baltimore County, Maryland, for 44 years. After the children were grown, Pat went back to college and earned her Bachelor's Degree at Towson State University and her Master's Degree at Western Maryland College. She then pursued the career that she loved – teaching! She taught first and third grades, primarily at Franklin Elementary School, for twenty years. She enjoyed following her students and still communicated with some of their parents on social media. Her hobbies were scrapbooking and reading. She also enjoyed country music and cruises.
For the last eleven years, after moving to Virginia, she enjoyed being part of a neighborhood, making new friends, joining a Bible study group and going to football games to watch her grandsons perform in high school and college bands.
