Paula M. Rowe was born Feb 23, 1945 in Jackson Michigan and died Jan 22, 2017 in Towson,
Maryland
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Rowe of Westminster, MD; Son John P. Rowe
of St. Albans, WV; daughter and son-in law Sarah and Aaron Simmons of Moon Township, PA
and grandchildren Evan and Elliot Simmons of Moon Township, PA. She was predeceased by
her parents Paul and Rhea Peck of Clark Lake, Michigan.
Paula received her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and her master's degree
at the Pennsylvania State University. She taught biology, anatomy and physiology, and math for
many years in the Montgomery MD schools and later at Carroll Lutheran School in Westminster.
She especially enjoyed the Teacher Student Internship program through NIH and the Howard
Hughes Foundation. She was always sincerely invested in her students and worked to help them
to their best potential.
Paula loved all animals, but horses always held a special place in her heart. She was an avid
horsewoman and since she was a little girl had dreamed of having a horse farm. Her dream was
realized in 2001 when she and her husband bought a small farm near Westminster. She rode
dressage at first and later mostly trail riding. She is missed by her dog Maizy and thoroughbreds
Rolo and Mr. Nickers. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westminster where she
taught the adult Bible study class.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 833 Deer Park Road, Westminster
MD 21157 at 11:00 AM on February 2, 2017. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00
AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church
