Reba Barker Sheavly, 82, of Reisterstown died on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at her residence.
Born on April 27, 1927 in Akron, OH, she was the daughter of the late Harold Barker and Lillie Metzger Barker. She was the wife of William C. Sheavly, her husband of 62 years, whom she met on a blind date.
She attended Glyndon United Methodist Church and was active in the women's Bible study. She attended the University of Akron.
She lived for 12-13 years in Butler, PA and had lived in Reisterstown since 1971.
She sang with the Candlelighters and was a member of the Glyndon Women's Club where she sang with the Senior Song Birds. She was a member of the 69th Infantry Division Women's Auxiliary, whom she traveled extensively and made 6 trips to Europe.
In addition, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered at Cherrywood Nursing Home. In 2008, after volunteering 1000 hours, she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters and son in law Rebecca Thomas of Butler, PA and Ann and Michael Wilmer of Westminster; her sons and daughters in law William H. and Seba Sheavly of Virginia Beach, VA and Mark T. and Lynn Sheavly of Reisterstown; her brother Dr. Harold Barker of Wilmington, DE; brother in law and sisters in law Thomas and Jeanne Sheavly of Canadaigua, NY and Betty Barker of Wilmington, DE; her grandchildren Emily Thomas Glaser of Cleveland, OH, Sarah Zipf of State College, PA, Rachel Brunswick of Hammond, IN, Elizabeth, Jessica, and John Wilmer all of Westminster, Jared Wilmer of Richmond, VA, and Brian Sheavly of Towson; and also survived by her 2 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Glyndon United Methodist Church, 4713 Butler Road, Glyndon with Rev. Norman Obenshain officiating.
Private interment Wednesday at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills.
